The U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first-of-its-kind drug, female Viagra, to treat the symptoms of an estrogen-dependent cancer that was found to express estrogenic symptoms. The drug was approved in November and it has now been on the market for about six months.
The FDA approved the drug in the same way it was approved for the female drug, in which women were given a pill containing a mixture of estrogen and a placebo to treat low-level estrogen, such as low-dose androgen excess. The pill’s effects are seen in clinical studies, but women taking the drug were told they would not take a placebo.
The FDA said it is considering using a “new mechanism” of action that the drug uses to treat the condition, and is not yet on the market.
The drug is designed to treat low levels of estrogen in the body. It has been shown to be effective in treating low-level estrogen in women, but in men, the drug can lead to estrogenic side effects, including headaches and changes in vaginal tissues.
According to the FDA, it does not treat a woman’s risk for high estrogen, and the drug is not effective in treating other estrogenic side effects such as low-level androgen excess. The drug has been shown to have fewer side effects than the placebo, and is safe for use in women.
The drug is currently being studied as a treatment for breast cancer, and is expected to be approved by the FDA in July.
